Lucas Creek Restoration
This pilot project for the rehabilitation of a creek within the Albany catchment was a high-profile trial for the implementation and development of "soft engineering" techniques that had never been used in NZ before; combined with the creation of an attractive public reserve with wetland areas.
Key aspects of the scope of works include flood and erosion protection control measures, drainage and major ground improvement works within the watercourse, bulk earthworks and intensive landscaping activities.

More than 200 environmental specialists and other interested parties visited the Lucas Creek Restoration project whilst works were in progress. Using techniques that were "outside TP90", Dempsey Wood demonstrated a very high standard of successful and innovative environmental management throughout. The water in the creek and created wetlands is now so clean (and the environmental controls implemented have proved so effective) that it is now home to freshwater crayfish, eels and numerous other clearwater fish and marine life.
